We are interested in how organs form in developing embryos, and how cell communication contributes to proper development. We are studying branched tubular structures, such as the tracheal system in flies and the vasculature in the zebrafish, to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying branching morphogenesis. We use avant-garde genetic, molecular and imaging tools to describe and better understand cell behaviour during the morphogenesis process. Since morphogens play important roles in organogenesis, we also study how the BMP signal transduction pathway controls the formation of the Drosophila wing, a model system for studying the integration of growth control and patterning. |
