The Swiss Zebrafish Meeting
The 5th Annual Swiss Zebrafish Meeting, which is going to take place in Basel on the 13th April 2011, is a mini-symposium bringing together professors, post-docs, PhD and master students from the alpine region (A, F, D, I, CH) to give an overview about current fish research and research techniques. The zebrafish, a relatively new model, has become a premier system to study morphogenetic, cellular and molecular aspects of embryonic development and organogenesis. In recent years, it has been successfully used to establish disease models as well as for the discovery of drug targets. This meeting has become an important platform to discuss and coordinate zebrafish research and to share new technologies and results.

Basel — on the border triangle of France, Germany and Switzerland
Basel is ideally situated for a symposium like this because of its proximity to the Freiburg (D), Strasbourg (F) and Karlsruhe (D) areas. These areas are renowned centers for zebrafish research and we wish to attract a number of delegates from these areas. We expect about 80-100 participants to attend. There will be 4 talks given by invited speakers and about 12 talks selected from submitted abstracts. In addition, there will be poster sessions, which will stimulate scientific discussions during the coffee breaks. The aim of the meeting is not only to keep track of the newest discoveries in the field, but more importantly to foster collaborations between the groups and to provide a platform for discussion and exchange of knowledge between the professors and the younger scientists.
