neXtProt: The new Human Protein Knowledge Platform in the Context of Drug Discovery.

We will describe neXtProt (www.nextprot.org), the human-centric protein knowledge platform developed by the CALIPHO group at the SIB. neXtProt is developed with the aim to help researchers answer pertinent questions relevant to human proteins. To achieve this goal we need to build up on a corpus of both curated knowledge -originating mainly from the UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot knowledgebase -and carefully selected and filtered high-throughput data pertinent to human proteins. Such a data gathering and grading effort must be complemented by the development of tools that allow such data to be analyzed. We hope that we will gradually be able to answer the challenges of modern medical research and to offer our contribution to drug discovery efforts.
