Alumni Board

The Biozentrum Alumni Board came into being in January, 2013, in order to plan and steer the activities of the Biozentrum Alumni organization. The Biozentrum is happy to have such dedicated individuals on the Alumni Board and thanks Hans-Peter Hauri for taking on the first presidency. The Alumni Board is made up of the following members:


Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Hauri, Emeritus
Hans-Peter Hauri was at the Biozentrum from 1983 until 2010, first as an independent group leader and from 1992 until 2010 as Professor of Cell Biology. He worked on membrane traffic and established the ER-Golgi intermediate compartment (ERGIC) as a novel organelle of the secretory pathway. Furthermore, he was the Director of Studies for the Biology II curriculum and the joint Biology curriculum and Dean of the Faculty of Science.


Prof. Dr. Markus Affolter
Markus Affolter came to the Biozentrum as a postdoc in 1988 and subsequently received a START grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation. In 2000, he became an Associate Professor and, in 2005, Professor of Developmental Biology. He is investigating the cellular and molecular processes in the growth and development of organs and blood vessel networks.

Prof. Dr. Urs Jenal
Urs Jenal began his research at the Biozentrum, in 1996, as an Assistant Professor and, since 2002, holds a professorship in both of the focal areas of Infection Biology and Growth and Development. He is investigating the development of microbial communities - the biofilms. Furthermore, he is in charge of and coordinates the curriculum for graduate students and PhDs.

Prof. Dr. Urs A. Meyer, Emeritus
Urs A. Meyer was Professor of Pharmacology at the Biozentrum from 1983 to 2008. His scientific achievements in pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine were honored with numerous prizes and awards. He is one of the most cited researchers in this field. Urs A. Meyer was also Acting Chairman of the Biozentrum and has served the scientific community in numerous functions.

Marcel Scheiwiller, Head of Administration
Marcel Scheiwiller, as Head of Administration is in charge of all business related, organizational and administrative aspects of the Biozentrum. Apart from HR & Finance, Technical Operations & Logistics and Communications he is also responsible for the Core Facilities.

Evi Sonderegger, Head of Communications
Together with her team, Evi Sonderegger is in charge of public and media relations for the Biozentrum. Brochures, the employee magazine and the ALUMNInews, content for Internet and Intranet, Corporate Design and public events are also taken care of by Communications.
