Prof. Dr. Simon Bernèche

2008 − 2015 I Professor of Biophysics

The Canadian Simon Bernèche studied physics at the University of Montreal. In 2003, he completed his PhD in the field of Biophysics and Physiology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He then moved to the Biozentrum, University of Basel, as a postdoctoral fellow supported by the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP). After two years working at the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB), he became a SNSF Professor at the Biozentrum in 2008. From 2009 until 2018, he worked as a group leader at the SIB. In his research, he investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying electrical signaling in neurons and muscle cells.
