Scientific Coordinator at the Biozentrum Basel (at least 60%)

Starting 1 February 2019 or as per agreement

The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. It consists of 30 groups and 500 employees that research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birth place of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.

The Biozentrum is seeking a dynamic and highly interactive Scientific Coordinator. The Scientific Coordinator will work with the Biozentrum leadership-team and faculty in the development, implementation and coordination of multiple research and educational projects that support our departmental and interdepartmental goals. You will join our efforts in research, education, outreach, fundraising, faculty recruitment and conference planning.

Your responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for breakthrough science and technology
  • Help design new curricula/courses and improve current curricula/courses and training
  • Connect the Biozentrum to other institutes in Basel, Switzerland, Europe and the rest of world; as well as to Pharma, Biotech and to the general public, including high schools
  • Identify grant opportunities and philanthropic support
  • Support faculty recruitment, promotions and nominations for awards; help promote diversity and inclusion
  • Coordinate and support the organization of seminar series, retreats, conferences and advisory board meetings

Your profile
The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. in biological or biomedical sciences, experience with complex organizations, familiarity with the Swiss or European science landscape, as well as outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills. Excellent writing and communication skills are expected in both English and German.
