The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading biomedical research institutes worldwide. It is home to more than 30 research groups with scientists from over 40 countries. Research at the Biozentrum focuses on the areas of Cell Growth & Development, Infection Biology, Neurobiology, Structural Biology & Biophysics and Computational & Systems Biology. With its more than 500 employees, the Biozentrum is the largest department at the University of Basel’s Faculty of Science.
The Scheiffele Lab at Biozentrum is searching for a highly motivated 80-100% laboratory technician.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic research group studying the development of neuronal networks in the mammalian brain and pathophysiology of autism-spectrum disorders. Main responsibilities include behavioral procedures in mice, molecular biology and biochemical experiments. Approximately 50% of the work will be broadly supporting functions and maintenace of the lab and 50% will be directly linked to a specific project in the laboratory.
Applicants should have a degree as “Laborant/in” or a Bachelor Degree in Biology or related topics. Previous experience in mouse husbandry, surgery, cell culture, recombinant protein expression and purification, and molecular biology applications is desired. The role requires flexibility, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task. Enthusiasm and motivation for biological research are critical. The primary language
of the laboratory and the Biozentrum is English.

The position is available from Jan 1, 2019. The initial contract will be for one year with the possibility of longer-term extension.
