Laboratory Technician (50% / 100%)

Starting 1 January 2019 or upon agreement

The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading institutes worldwide for molecular and biomedical basic research and teaching. It is home to more than 30 research groups with scientists from over 40 countries. Research at the Biozentrum focuses on the areas of Cell Growth & Development, Infection Biology, Neurobiology, Structural Biology & Biophysics and Computational & Systems Biology. With its more than 500 employees, the Biozentrum is the largest department at the University of Basel’s Faculty of Science.

The research team of Prof. Kelly Tan is seeking for a motivated and committed technician. We use a combinatorial approach that includes tools ranging from transgenic mice, anatomy mapping, pharmacology, optogenetics and techniques covering imaging, electrophysiology in vitro and in vivo, calcium imaging and behavior. With such state-of the art approach, we dissect basal ganglia sub circuits and neuronal populations to decipher their role in locomotion and cognition both in physiology and pathology.

Your responsibilities
You will take care of our mouse colony (coordinate with animal care-taker for breeding), mouse genotyping, make part of the lab orders, and also take part in collaborators’ projects performing experiments related to molecular/cellular biology, stereotaxic injections and behavior.

Your profile
You have experience in mouse behavior or molecular/cellular biology or electrophysiology or anatomical mapping.
You have good communication and organizational skills.
