Communications Officer (20-50%) – NCCR AntiResist

The NCCR AntiResist is recruiting for the position of Communications Officer. We seek an independent and creative individual who will bring his/her expertise in Life Sciences and Public Relations or journalism to the development of the communication strategy of the NCCR AntiResist.

The National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) “AntiResist: New approaches to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria”, whose home institution is the University of Basel, is a Swiss-wide interdisciplinary center for infection biology and antibiotic research with strong collaborations between biologists, clinicians, engineers, computational scientists and chemists. This network is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation as part of their major support in strengthening research in areas of strategic importance. Our goals are to develop laboratory models mimicking infection processes in human patients, and to use these models to discover innovative antibiotics and alternative strategies to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria. At the core of this venture are direct links between basic and clinical research, bioengineering, and pharmaceutical industry to help solving the current antibiotic crisis.

Your position
The Communications Officer is a member of the NCCR extended management team.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing, implementing, managing and monitoring the NCCR’s communication strategy.
  • Developing and implementing strategies for outreach programs and activities
  • Communicating the NCCR’s activities to the wider community (external communication: media releases, webpage, social media, newsletter, etc)
  • Developing and maintaining the content for the NCCR’s website and intranet.
  • Liaising with the Communications Department of the institutions of the NCCR network.
  • Supporting the Coordinator and Scientific Officer in furthering efficient communication within the NCCR.

In execution of these functions, the Communications Officer is at the center of the communication between the management team, the NCCR network, the scientific community and the general public.

Your profile

  • University degree in Life Sciences and further education in Public Relations or journalism
  • Extensive practical knowledge in media relations, social media, and website content management is required
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Full professional proficiency in English is essential. Proficiency in German desired
  • Thrives on multidisciplinary collaborations within a team

Salary will be commensurate with institutional guidelines of the University of Basel and level of experience.

Starting date is negotiable on or after 1. May, 2022. This initial contract is for 1 year, with the possibility to extend to each continued 4-year phase of the NCCR.
