The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. It consists of 30 groups and 500 employees that research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birth place of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.
The research group of Michael Hall is looking for a laboratory technician. Main focus of the research is to understand the role of mTOR signaling in growth and metabolism. In particular, we are interested in metabolic alterations in liver cancer and diabetes.
Your responsibilities are
- to manage and maintain mouse lines
- to perform in vivo experiments
- to provide support in cell culture and histology
- to perform basic protein and nucleic acid techniques such as immunoblotting, (q)PCR,
You have completed a degree in biology (Bachelor’s/Master’s) or training as a lab assistant/technician. An excellent understanding and experience in transgenic breeding and maintaining of breeding colonies is essential. You have profound experience in mouse handling and injection techniques (experience in IV, IP, and SC injections and PO drug delivery is required). Experiences in metabolic experiments (for example GTT, ITT, and metabolic clamp) and surgery techniques are a plus. Experience in histology is an advantage. You have experience in cell biological techniques (cell culture and downstream biochemical techniques).
The successful candidate is highly motivated, eager to acquire new skills, and can work independently in a team environment. Communication skills in oral and written English are essential. Communication skills in German are an advantage. Basic computer skills are desirable.
