2015 - 2026 | Professor of Structural Biology

After eleven years at the Biozentrum and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Jan Pieter Abrahams became Professor Emeritus in 2026. He studied biology and earned his PhD from Leiden University in 1991. Following a research stay at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK, he became Professor of Structural Biology at Leiden University in 1997. His research focused on determining the three-dimensional structures of biomolecules, particularly protein complexes, using X-ray crystallography, electron microscopy, spectroscopy, and electron diffraction.
