Join us!

We are looking for highly motivated and curious PhD students with a background in theoretical physics, applied mathematics, and related fields. In our group, you will develop theoretical approaches to understand the complex dynamics and basic physical principles of living systems. Together, we will develop theory based on non-equilibrium statistical physics and the mechanics of soft active matter. You will be able to connect your theoretical approaches directly to state-of-the-art experiments using stochastic inference and machine learning approaches. PhD students can join the group either directly or through the Biozentrum PhD Fellowships program (summer and winter call). Please email us directly with your CV and a brief statement of why you’d be interested in joining our group.

Our group provides Postdocs a space to independently develop their own research directions in a supportive and interactive community. We are looking for highly motivated, curious people with a background in biological and statistical physics. We have fully funded Postdoctoral positions available, but also support applications to independently funded Postdoctoral Fellowships, including EMBO, HFSP and SNSF Fellowships. Please contact David Brückner by email, including your CV, names of two references and an explanation on why you’d be interested in joining our group.

Masters and Bachelor students, if you are interested in any of the research questions in the group and would like to do a project with us, please contact David Brückner by email with a CV and university transcripts. Bachelor students can also apply to the Biozentrum Undergraduate Research Summer Program (next deadline March 2025). We are also open to hosting interns in our group.
