Life in Basel - the cosmopolitan village -- goes well beyond work. This city has a diverse international community. English is widely spoken, and newcomers are supported by a range of services and organizations that promote expat integration such as BaselConnect and InterNations. In 2024, Basel was ranked joint tenth with Sydney in the Mercer annual Quality of Living survey for expats.

Funding opportunities
For U.S. and international scientists seeking to continue their work in a place where research is a priority, Switzerland offers genuine opportunities and long-term support.
Researchers can find funding opportunities in Basel and Switzerland through various sources, including the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships, and the Fulbright Program. The SNSF supports project funding, postdoctoral fellowships, and grants for early-career researchers. A Swiss research institution is often required as a host organization for conducting research in Switzerland.
