Laboratory Technician (80-100%)

Starting on August 1st 2020 or on upon mutual agreement

The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. A total of 30 research groups and 500 employees investigate how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birthplace of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.

The Jenal Lab at the Biozentrum is searching for a highly motivated 80-100% laboratory technician with experience in cell biology and cell culture techniques. 

Your responsibilities
The successful applicant will join a dynamic research group studying how bacterial pathogens establish infections and how this effects the response to antibiotic treatment. 

Main responsibilities include
i) support of cell culture experiments to develop lung tissue models for infection experiments with bacterial pathogens (approx. 50% of working time)
ii) support of PhD students and postdocs in their research activities studying molecular mechanisms of bacterial infections and antibiotic activity (approx. 25%)
iii) general support functions and maintenance of the lab (approx. 25%). 

Your profile
You have a “Laborant/in” degree or a Bachelor/Master degree in Biology or related topics. 

We expect good technical expertise in cell culture work (at least 1-2 years of experience) and possibly (but not mandatory) experience in molecular biology and/or microbiology techniques.

The position requires diligence, highly developed organizational and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task. Flexibility and a strong desire to learn new techniques is of advantage.  

We are seeking a team-player, who is also capable of working independently. Enthusiasm and motivation for biological research are essential. The primary language of the laboratory and the larger environment at the Biozentrum is English.
