Preamble
The University of Basel attaches great importance to the protection of personal data. Personal data is all data that can be related to you personally, e.g. name, address, e-mail, telephone number, photo, user behavior, IP address, etc.
With this privacy policy, we would like to inform you which data the biozentrum collects from you as a user of the website biozentrum.unibas.ch, processes, discloses, and for what purpose, and which measures the University of Basel takes to ensure the security of this data. In addition, we inform you about your rights by means of this privacy policy.
On what legal basis does the University of Basel process personal data?
Personal data is always processed in compliance with the Information and Data Protection Act of the Canton of Basel-Stadt (IDG) applicable to the University of Basel and, if applicable, the Swiss Federal Data Protection Act (DSG). Any consent you have given us for certain services can be revoked at any time with effect for the future. Personal data that has already been accumulated will be deleted if it is no longer required for the purposes for which the data was collected. Instead of deletion, the data will be blocked if there are legal or contractual reasons against deletion.

Why are cookies set?
Cookies are small text files that are transferred from our server or the server of a third party to the user's browser and stored on your terminal device. Through this, we automatically receive certain data such as the IP address, browser used, operating system and your connection to the Internet. The use of cookies increases the user-friendliness and security of the website. Google Search
The University of Basel uses the Google Custom Search Engine (Google CSE) as a central search service. User data is automatically transmitted to Google when the search function on a page is activated and used.

This includes, for example, the search terms you enter and the IP address of the computer you use. Please note that different privacy standards apply for Google than the standards for the use of the unibas.ch website. We expressly draw your attention to the fact that the provider of the search service is responsible for the processing and, in particular, the storage, deletion and use of any personal data that is transmitted, and the University of Basel has no influence over the type and scope of data transmitted or the further processing of such data.

Google Maps
We use the Google Maps API to display an interactive map and to create route maps.
As a result of the use of Google Maps, information about your use of the unibas.ch website (including your IP address) may be transmitted to a Google server in the US and stored there. Google may send the information obtained through Maps to third parties if doing so is legally required or if third parties process this data on behalf of Google.
You can deactivate the Google Maps service and thus prevent your data from being transmitted to Google by deactivating JavaScript in your browser. However, if you do so, you will not be able to use the map display on our website.
