Preamble
The University of Basel attaches great importance to the protection of personal data. Personal data is all data that can be related to you personally, e.g. name, address, e-mail, telephone number, photo, user behavior, IP address, etc.

With this privacy policy, we would like to inform you which data the biozentrum collects from you as a user of the website biozentrum.unibas.ch, processes, discloses, and for what purpose, and which measures the University of Basel takes to ensure the security of this data. In addition, we inform you about your rights by means of this privacy policy.

On what legal basis does the University of Basel process personal data?
Personal data is always processed in compliance with the Information and Data Protection Act of the Canton of Basel-Stadt (IDG) applicable to the University of Basel and, if applicable, the Swiss Federal Data Protection Act (DSG). In addition, the University of Basel complies with the European Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO), which may be applicable, and states the relevant legal basis for this case in each case, in accordance with Art. 13 Para. 1 lit c DSGVO.

What personal data does the University of Basel process and for what purpose?
The use of certain offers on the website biozentrum.unibas.ch, including the use of any newsletters and forms, may require the collection, processing and longer-term storage of personal data such as name, address, telephone number, or mail address. We process this data in accordance with Art. 9 of the Information and Data Protection Act of the Canton of Basel-Stadt (IDG) or the corresponding university regulations.

If and insofar as the European Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO) applies, we process the data:

  • based on legal requirements (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. c DSGVO) or in the public interest (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e DSGVO),
  • based on your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a DSGVO),
  • to fulfill contractual obligations as well as to carry out corresponding pre-contractual measures (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b DSGVO),
  • to protect the legitimate interests of us or of third parties (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO),
  • to protect vital interests of you or another natural person (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. d DSGVO).

Any consent you have given us for certain services can be revoked at any time with effect for the future. Personal data that has already been accumulated will be deleted if it is no longer required for the purposes for which the data was collected. Instead of deletion, the data will be blocked if there are legal or contractual reasons against deletion.

Why are cookies set?
Cookies are small text files that are transferred from our server or the server of a third party to the user's browser and stored on your terminal device. Through this, we automatically receive certain data such as the IP address, browser used, operating system and your connection to the Internet. The use of cookies increases the user-friendliness and security of the website. Via the settings of your browser, you can see which cookies have been set by the website biozentrum.unibas.ch, and can delete them if necessary.

What access data does the University of Basel process (collect, save, etc.) when you use the website biozentrum.unibas.ch and for what purpose?
For security reasons, e.g. to be able to clarify cases of abuse and to secure our network infrastructure, so-called access data, which are automatically collected when calling up the website biozentrum.unibas.ch, are stored in a web server log file on servers of the University of Basel for a period of 4 weeks. What third party services does the biozentrum.unibas.ch website use?
We integrate services of third parties, paying attention to the principles of data protection (especially purpose limitation, data minimization and, if possible, without data transfer to unsafe third countries).

Google Search

The University of Basel uses the Google Custom Search Engine (Google CSE) as a central search service. User data is automatically transmitted to Google when the search function on a page is activated and used.
When you activate and use the full-text search, you also agree to the use of the Google search service and thus the transmission of data to the Google service. This includes, for example, the search terms you enter and the IP address of the computer you use. Please note that different privacy standards apply for Google than the standards for the use of the unibas.ch website. We expressly draw your attention to the fact that the provider of the search service is responsible for the processing and, in particular, the storage, deletion and use of any personal data that is transmitted, and the University of Basel has no influence over the type and scope of data transmitted or the further processing of such data.

If you are also logged into Google, the Google service will be able to assign the information directly to your user profile.

Google Maps 
We use the Google Maps API to display an interactive map and to create route maps.
As a result of the use of Google Maps, information about your use of the unibas.ch website (including your IP address) may be transmitted to a Google server in the US and stored there. Google may send the information obtained through Maps to third parties if doing so is legally required or if third parties process this data on behalf of Google.
You can deactivate the Google Maps service and thus prevent your data from being transmitted to Google by deactivating JavaScript in your browser. However, if you do so, you will not be able to use the map display on our website.
