Laboratory Technician (80-100%)

Starting January 1, 2021 or upon mutual agreement

The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. It consists of 30 groups and 500 employees that research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birthplace of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.

The Scheiffele Lab at Biozentrum is searching for a highly motivated 80-100% laboratory technician. 

Your responsibilities
The successful applicant will join a dynamic research group studying the development of neuronal networks in the mammalian brain and pathophysiology of autism-spectrum disorders. Main responsibilities include behavioral and surgical procedures in mice, molecular biology and biochemical experiments. Approximately 50% of the work will be broadly supporting functions and maintenance of the lab and 50% will be directly linked to a specific project in the laboratory.

Your profile
Applicants should have a degree as “Laborant/in” or a Bachelor Degree in Biology or related topics. Previous experience in mouse husbandry, surgery, and molecular biology applications is desired. The role requires flexibility, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task. Enthusiasm and motivation for biological research are critical. The primary language of the laboratory and the Biozentrum is English.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to contribute to a vibrant international research community and to tackle a challenging question in neuroscience research. The work is part of the European AIMS-2-TRIALS Network which explores the biology of autism to tailor treatments and develop new medicines.

The position is available from Jan 1, 2021. The initial contract will be for one year with the possibility of longer-term extension.
