Postdoctoral position on the function and regulation of RNA-containing membrane-less organelles

The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. It consists of 30 groups and 500 employees that research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birthplace of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Prof. Maria Hondele at the Biozentrum, University of Basel, Switzerland.

The Hondele lab studies the formation, function and regulation of RNA-containing membraneless organelles such as stress granules or nuclear speckles1,2. To decipher these processes, we use a combination of biophysics, biochemical reconstitutions, imaging, cell biology, screening and ‘omics’ approaches, with human cell culture and yeast as model organisms. We love to collaborate to integrate structural biology and microfluidics approaches.

Your profile
We are looking for a highly motivated, creative scientist who wants to dissect fundamental questions in molecular, cellular and systems biology. The successful candidate will have the responsibility and freedom to shape, lead and present their research project.

Applicants should have a strong publication record and wish to pursue an academic career. Candidates with a background in the design, generation and analysis of next generation sequencing, mass spectrometry or quantitative microscopy data are especially encouraged to apply.

We offer
We are an interdisciplinary and international young team of enthusiastic scientists. We have generous access to state-of-the-art equipment and outstanding support by our in-house facilities. English is our working language; knowledge of German is not required.

Application / Contact
Please apply online: https://biped2.biozentrum.unibas.ch/apply/postdoctoral-position-hondele-lab

Applications should contain a statement of motivation, ideally including a brief description of your ‘dream research project’ in our lab, a detailed CV and contact details for at least two references.

For any informal enquiries, please contact: Maria Hondele (maria.hondele(at)unibasto make life hard for spam bots.ch).

A first round of evaluation will be concluded by February 1st; the application platform remains open until the position is filled. The starting date is flexible but would ideally be spring 2021. Another postdoctoral position will be available in summer / fall 2021.

We look forward to hearing from you!
