ERC-funded PhD positions available on the function and regulation of RNA-containing membrane-less organelles

The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. It consists of 30 groups and 500 employees that research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birthplace of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.

Two PhD student positions are available in the laboratory of Prof. Maria Hondele at the Biozentrum, University of Basel, Switzerland.

The Hondele lab studies the formation, function and regulation of RNA-containing membraneless organelles such as stress granules or nuclear speckles1,2. To decipher these processes, we use a combination of biophysics, biochemical reconstitutions, imaging, cell biology, screening and ‘omics’ approaches, with human cell culture and yeast as model organisms. We love to collaborate to integrate structural biology and microfluidics approaches.

Your profile
We are looking for highly motivated, creative individuals who want to dissect fundamental questions in molecular, cellular and systems biology. The successful candidates will have the responsibility and freedom to shape, lead and present their research project.

You should have finished your masters in biology, chemistry or physics by the start of the PhD project; exceptional candidates with a 4 year bachelor will also be considered.

English is our working language; knowledge of German is not required.
