The corona crisis in Switzerland has steadily deteriorated over the past several weeks. In order to protect the population and to relieve the burden on the health system, the Federal Council approved last Friday far-reaching measures aiming at slowing down the spread of the coronavirus. The University of Basel has adopted these instructions and is thus contributing to the protection of the population in Switzerland. The implementation of the Federal Council's measures applies to all institutions of the University of Basel.
In general, the University of Basel and also the Biozentrum will continue to operate in the coming weeks with the exception of all attendance events. Therefore, lectures and seminars will be held via digital channels, the practical courses at the Biozentrum are discontinued until further notice. All university buildings are primarily closed to students, including study and seminar rooms as well as reading rooms.The university libraries will also remain closed for the time being.
The essential functions important for the operation of the Biozentrum are assured during this serious situation. Whenever possible, employees should work from home in consultation with their superiors. Research activities have been reduced to a minimum, but the research infrastructures will continue to be operated. From now on, team meetings and discussions are held online and experimental work in the laboratories is limited to a strict minimum. All scientific talks and public lectures are cancelled until further notice.
