2009 - 2018 | Professor of Cell Biology and Director of the Biozentrum
Erich Nigg was Professor of Cell Biology and the Director of the Biozentrum, University of Basel, from 2009 to 2018. Following earlier work on biological membranes, the structure of the cell nucleus and mechanisms of nuclear signal transduction, Erich Nigg focused on the cell cycle. In particular, he investigated the centrosome duplication cycle and the segregation of human chromosomes during cell division. Erich Nigg is a member of several scientific associations, including the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), the German Academy of Sciences “Leopoldina”, and the Academia Europaea.
