Prof. Dr. Josef Pfeilschifter

Josef Pfeilschifter studied medicine in Regensburg and Munich and graduated in 1982 at the Technische Universität Munich. He subsequently worked as a scientific assistant at the Institute of Physiology at the University of Regensburg and the University of Zurich. In 1987 Pfeilschifter moved into the field of pharmaceutical research at Ciba-Geigy AG in Basel. In 1990 he achieved his habilitation at the University of Basel, while working for Prof. Dr. U. A. Meyer and Prof. Dr. P. Walter and subsequently conducted research at the Biozentrum as Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology. In 1996 Josef Pfeilschifter joined the University Frankfurt. He since holds the position of Professor and Director of the Institute of General Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Goethe-University of Frankfurt am Main, where he continues research in the areas of cancer, wound healing, acute and chronic inflammation, signal transduction as well as diseases of the skin and kidneys. In 2004, Pfeilschifter became a member of the German Academy of Sciences, the Leopoldina.
