Peter Scheiffele new member of the National Research Council

Prof. Peter Scheiffele at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel is a newly elected member of the National Research Council in the field of cellular and molecular neurobiology at the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Scheiffele will take up his new office on October 1, 2019.

Prof. Peter Scheiffele, Professor of Neurobiology at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel, was elected in March this year to succeed the outgoing member Prof. Hanns Ulrich Zeilhofer of the University of Zurich. In total, the Executive Committee of the SNSF Foundation Council has elected three new Research Council members this year. Besides Scheiffele, Prof. Markus Affolter from the Biozentrum has been part of Division III: Biology and Medicine of the Research Council since 2013.


The National Research Council
The National Research Council is the scientific board of the SNSF. It evaluates several thousand research proposals submitted to the SNSF annually and makes decisions on their financial support. The Research Council is composed of up to 100 members at any one time, all leading researchers in their field and most of whom work at Swiss universities.
